App-based police verification to make passport process easier in Gurugram
Authorities have decided to go digital for verifying the status of applicants at their doorsteps and instantly upload the required data and photograph to the police headquarters and further to the passport office.
Police verification for passports would no longer be a lengthy affair in Gurugram after a week. Authorities have decided to go digital for verifying the status of applicants at their doorsteps and instantly upload the required data and photograph to the police headquarters and further to the passport office.
The exercise, reportedly the first of its kind, has been adopted by Gurugram police to complete verification procedures within two days so applicants get passports swiftly. Deepak Gahlawat, DCP headquarters of Gurugram police, said the exercise is an extension of online passport application procedures to save time of the police department and applicants.
“We will facilitate tablets featuring a special app to police personnel, who will go to applicants houses and update their status to the headquarters. The app will instantly detect any mismatch in data provided by applicants followed by reasons of non-eligibility in case of a mismatch,” Gahlawat said.
The online verification exercise of the police department will be named m-passport and the passport department has already issued a password and digital operating manual. “The app will instantly verify the status of an applicant and send it to us. We will maintain individual data of applicants and will send it to the local passport office. The procedure will take a maximum of two days. We will start the training of police personnel for the digital format of verification in a couple of days,” the DCP said.
Gurugram has a population of over 25 lakh and a sizable portion belongs to the rich class regularly travelling abroad for business and tourism. Besides, several job seekers in the Gulf and European countries also apply for passports here. Gurugram police has also decided to provide an online window in higher educational institutions.
“We have asked college principals to appoint a faculty member as passport officer, who will help final-year students wanting to apply for passport and their police verification,” the officer said.
