TV newsmen injured in RAB attack


Dhaka, Sept 12: At least 20 people, including staffs, employees and newsmen of private satellite television channel Bangla Vision were injured when the plain-clothes Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members attacked them at Karwanbazar Bangla Vision office in the city Monday afternoon. According to the Bangla Vision, two employees of the broadcasting department of the channel were locked in altercation with each other in the office at around 4:45pm, but a patrol team of RAB-2 intercepted them and picked up one of them on their vehicle.
As soon as the news spread, the other staffs, employees and newsmen of the channel rushed to the scene but RAB men allegedly attacked them and charged batons indiscriminately leaving 20 people injured. As the RAB members allegedly fired gunshots, local people rushed to the scene and joined with the injured staffs and employees and managed to confine two of the RAB personnel at their office.
Injured Rasel Mizan told The Independent, "RAB members opened four rounds of gunshots creating panic in the area."
Later, the media and legal wing director of the battalion commander M Sohail rushed to the scene and held a meeting with chief of news Mostafa Firoz.
