Fatuma's son is dangerously ill because she can't grow, or afford to buy, enough food for him.

He's also suffering from diarrhea and nausea. As a result, he is weak and starving — and might not survive to his second birthday.

Fatuma's son may become one of the 17,000 children who die from hunger and preventable diseases every day.

You can help bring lifesaving and life-changing support to people like Fatuma and her infant son. That's why I hope you'll support CARE's 2011 World Hunger Campaign with a tax-deductible gift today.

The goal of our World Hunger Campaign is to help raise $1 million to feed starving children and their families and address the underlying causes of global hunger and poverty. Consider how your generous gift can help CARE change lives:
• $30 can supply an infant, like Fatuma's son, supplemental emergency food for a month
• $60 can provide three children with nutritious meals at school for an entire year to improve their energy, attention and performance
• $125 can cover the cost of seeds that will yield enough food to feed five families for five months
• $250 can help feed 100 children during a crisis, such as a drought, earthquake or flood
But time is short — our goal is to raise $1 million before World Food Day on October 16. Your gift, combined with those from other generous donors, can help feed thousands of children and families in poor communities — and so much more.

That's because our work doesn't stop with lifesaving aid. CARE is on the ground every day in many of the world's poorest countries helping families and communities implement long-term solutions to fight hunger and poverty.

We help mothers like Fatuma learn to plant drought- and flood-resistant gardens, help villages gain access to clean water and proper sanitation and make sure children survive and thrive. These are just a few examples of the extraordinary life-changing differences your gift can make.

But a child who's hungry can't wait long. Every second counts. Please make your tax-deductible gift today before it's too late.

Sincerely,

Helene D. Gayle, MD, MPH
President and CEO, CARE
