YOGA GURU SET FOR SAINT LUCIA HEALTH AND WELLNESS RETREAT

SOUFRIERE, Saint Lucia (September 29, 2011) - Start practising yoga and you'll be on your way to unlocking major tension, one of America's leading yoga teachers stresses.

John Schumacher, the respected Iyengar Yoga specialist who will be featured at this November's Saint Lucia Health and Wellness Retreat, contends after just a few days of yoga practice "you can begin to open the doors to physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being and this can be an awakening to a whole new world of possibilities."

Schumacher, a disciple of the renowned Guruji B.K.S Iyengar and director of Unity Woods Yoga Center in Bethesda, Maryland - the largest Iyengar center in the United States - will join motivational speaker Dr. Stephen Brewer and Feng Shui expert William Spear, as headliners of the four-day retreat for soul, mind, body and spirit in the former French colonial capital of Soufrière from November 17-20, 2011.

Schumacher, a celebrated practitioner and teacher in the yoga community, is recognised for exploring the nuances of body, mind and spirit through disciplined and enthusiastic study.

"Yoga is not just about a healthy body but it is really about the whole person - physical, energetic, emotional, mental and spiritual. That is why the effects are so far reaching - they come from the integration of all aspects of our being," he posited.

"We are encouraged by the positive response to the retreat and are equally ecstatic to have John Schumacher here with us on island," said Senator Allen Chastanet, Saint Lucia's Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation.

"His expertise and the respect he commands in this field will assure participants of a truly transformative experience," he added.

Yoga instruction is a central part of the retreat experience which will also include photography and art workshops, culinary classes, as well as pottery and painting design. Additionally, participants can avail themselves of the hiking, snorkeling, mountain biking and other outdoor activities for which Soufrière is renowned.

During the retreat, yoga will be offered twice a day - to open and close each day's activities.

The retreat in Soufrière, home to several world class hotels and resorts, is supported by the Saint Lucia Tourist Board and the Soufrière Foundation.
